Ibuprofen is a type of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The FDA approved Ibuprofen in 1974. To the same kins of drugs belong indomethacin (Indocin), naproxen (Aleve), nabumetone (Relafen), etc. This type of drugs treats mild and moderate pain, inflammation and fever. Ibuprofen provides a blocking action on the the enzyme, responsible for production of prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase). As known, prostaglandins are chemicals, forming in body. They cause pain. The acting mechanism of Motrin reduces the level of this chemical, and decreases fever, pain or inflammation.
